This is my Halloween story, a few years in, living in the States. I wore my white frilly dress my grandmother sent for my “shichi go san” ceremony ( a ceremony in Japan for children in ages three, five and seven). My mother bought a tiara and a glittery magic wand in addition and I became somewhat of a princess.
I went to see my friend Jessica’s family, who’re from New Zealand, to go Trick or Treating. Jessica was dressed as a black cat, which is a typical Halloween costume for kid our age at that time. Her black nose and face painting were really cute and I probably must have said, “That’s so cute! So Jealous!” or something like that. Jessica’s mom drew me a cat nose and whiskers. Now I turned into a cat princess, which I doubt exists, and when we started Trick or Treating, people seemed to be confused looking at me saying, “Well, well. What do we have here?” Needless to say, I, myself was confused. I learned at that moment that you had to be able to explain what you dressed as when you’re Trick or Treating.
