Twenty months after being forced to close by a kitchen fire that broke out during Wednesday night bingo, Renner's Grill in Multnomah Village is set to reopen.
Owner Steve Potter confirmed to the SW Connection on Friday afternoon that the iconic Renner's sign at 7819 SW Capitol Highway will be relit at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 31.
He'll throw a party that night "to get some buzz going and raise some funds," said Potter. But it's already sold out.
"No public that night, just invited guests, and we're already at capacity. We'll serve some food and have some door prizes and try to raise some money to buy a walk-in cooler," Potter said.
The public reopening of Renner's should happen sometime in February. "It will be a week or two after that night. The Health Department has to sign me off on permits then I've got to finish my bar tops and clean the place up and that's about it," he said.
Renner's will have limited hours and a limited menu for the first few months. Potter said he expects most of the staff who were working before the fire will return.
Renner's Grill, in business in the same location under that name since 1939, was forced to shut down on March 28, 2018 after a fire that started in the grill caused $150,000 worth of damage. No one was injured.
