Weber's Newest Grill Is a Glimpse Into the Future of Grilling - gearpatrol.com

Wood pellet grilling used to be for geeks. What kind of home pitmaster wants a grill riddled with computers and apps? But as the home has become more connected and companies have pushed the technology further, the category has reached a new peak — Weber, the progenitor of America’s grill obsession, is releasing a wood pellet grill.

The Weber SmokeFire Series features heat ranges from 200 to 600 degrees, the brand’s Flavorizer bars and Weber’s classic porcelain enamel-coated body. The grill connects to your phone through the Weber Connect app, which projects ETAs on meal completion and offers recipes and tips for cooking in a wood pellet grill.

If you’re unfamiliar with how pellet grilling works, read our guide. Essentially, you load a bag of tiny wood pellets into a hopper and the grill’s onboard computer pushes them into a firepot for grilling and smoking. Since the product’s inception, the brand of record has been Traeger, whose founder invented the wood pellet grill in the ’80s. Weber’s announcement comes on the heels of Traeger unveiling its new voice-control functionality.

The Weber SmokeFire is available for pre-order at Lowes, Amazon and Weber’s own site starting at $999.
