COLONIE — The proprietor of Martel’s Grill and Bar at the Town of Colonie Golf Course and Capital Hills Golf Course in Albany turned himself in on Wednesday, Dec. 18, to answer the allegation of forcible touching.
According to reports, James Martel, turned himself in to Colonie police answer the misdemeanor charge related to an alleged Oct.26 incident. He was issued an appearance ticket and is due to appear in Colonie Town Court on Dec. 30. He listed his occupation as “president” on the report, and that he is married.
Colonie police Lt. Robert Winn said the female, who is known to Martel, came to police to report the allegation and there was corroborating evidence to support the charge. The victim’s name is not being released, and the location of the alleged offense is also not being released because if could lead to the victim’s ID.
“Defendant did intentionally and for no legitimate purpose forcibly touch the buttocks and vagina of the victim,” Winn said.
ckMartel has run the bar and restaurant at Capital Hills, located off of New Scotland Avenue, since 1994. In 2014, he opened Martel’s at the Town of Colonie Golf Course. Both locations are open year round.
Both golf courses are owned and operated by the respective municipalities, and Martel leases the bar and restaurant portion of the clubhouse. He is not a municipal employee.
When reached by phone, Martel had no comment and referred all questions to his attorney, Joseph McCoy. McCoy did not return a phone call for comment.
